The company established the Robotics X laboratory in Shenzhen in 2018. It is dedicated to research and applied use of cutting-edge robotics technologies, as well as exploring the connection of the virtual and physical worlds.
Tencent is a top investor in robotics start-up UBTech, a firm that focuses on humanoid robots. Tencent reportedly invested USD$40 million in 2017 and a further USD$120 million in 2018 in the firm.
