HTC Corporation is a Taiwanese company founded in 1997 to design and produce laptop computers. Other products include mobile phones, tablet computers, action cameras, activity trackers, and virtual reality headsets. Together with its US partner organisation Valve Corporation, HTC produces a virtual reality headset called HTC Vive. In 2016, the company announced that its virtual reality business would be transferred to a wholly owned subsidiary called HTC Vive Tech Corporation, which is now among the world’s leading companies in augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR).
HTC Vive Tech Corporation engages in research and development activities, commercial solutions, and its potential to win government contracts. With its VIVE Enterprise Business Warranty & Services, it specifically aims to support business in the use of VR equipment. Current case studies and collaborations on its website include Adidas AG, Bell Aircraft Corporation, Intel Corporation, and BMW group. According to its 2018 Annual Report, the company also focuses on applications in the healthcare sector with medical VR products.
There are suggestions that HTC VRproducts have been bought by government agencies. In addition, in 2016 HTC entered into a partnership with Shenzhen Municipal Government to establish the China VR Research Institute. Intended areas of application are the healthcare and military sectors.
